Well hello there! It has been quite a while since I last updated my oft neglected blog and I thought I'd take some time out to let you all know what I have been up to lately.
First up, I've just added a number of new designs to the Mug Builder. Some have been on my request list for a while, some I've been wanting to add for a long time. Happily, I've finally gotten around to this! If you have an idea for a design that you would like to see in the Mug Builder, by all means drop me a line and let me know what you have in mind.
The other big news is that I have just created a new category for pots that I make from time to time that are not mugs. In my last firing I made three beautiful lidded jars (thanks to Mary in Dade City, Florida for the inspiration!) and I thought, how am I going to sell these jars on a website that only sells mugs? Well, guess what, I broke my own rule of never selling anything other than mugs on my site, and I'm really excited for the future growth of this new section on the site. Some of you know that I started out making a complete line of functional pottery over twenty years ago, from dinner sets to tea sets, so it's nice to return to my roots a little bit. While my main focus will always be on mugs, from time to time it is nice to stretch out my fingers and offer some non mug items. You can see the new stuff in the newly minted Not Mugs section in the Mug Store.
One other thing that I did, after long and serious contemplation, was to stop using social media sites for Mug Revolution. The why's and how's are complex, let's just say that I'm alarmed at the way that data is being mined from users and subsequently sold to advertisers. We are also hearing about dubious practices the social media giants use to create an interface that causes addictive behavior, and studies have come out showing that people are less happy when using social media. I could probably write a longer post about my concerns but don't worry, I won't! If these companies ever get regulated and/or are somehow pursuaded to be transparent about how they operate, I will consider going back. But for now this blog is all I'm using to keep you updated, and I will try to be more regular with it. There's only one of me, so I appreciate your patience!
I'll pause here for now. Thank you all for your support and wonderful comments about the mugs. It's a great feeling knowing that so many of you are enjoying using them. I can't thank you enough for allowing me the privilege to pursue my passion for clay and glazes without having to rely on other sources of income.
Until next time! Cheers to all, Owen
